Esfahan-Shiraz

The flight is short and when approaching Persepolis we ask for permission for a sightseeing flight over it. We know that it is restricted area and we get that confirmed with a „no“. A few minutes later we get called again and get the permission!! What a positive surprise. So the pilots go wild again (like over the Victoria Falls, the Kili or Tikal) and Mr. Mohammed does not feel very comfortable... But he loves it and takes tons of pictures with his phone.

At the airport Miss Sanaz is waiting for us, a young lady with an American sounding accent. She tells us that she actually grew up in India. Checking in at the hotel, lunch at a very good restaurant and then off to Aramgah-e Hafez. Iranians have a saying that every home must have two things: first the Quran, then a collection of the works of Hafez. Hafez the poet is an Iranian folk here - loved, reverted and as popular as many a modern pop star. Almost every Iranian can quote his work. The marble tombstone engraved with a long verse from the poet was placed here by Karim Khan in 1773. In 1935 an octagonal pavilion was put up over it. A very nice building in a beautiful garden.
The Jalan Hama Garden is right next to it, again very beautiful and well taken care of. The pavilion houses a small museum and has interesting paintings. We meet a group of young ladies, all with nice cameras. They tell us that they studying to become press photographers and we start talking about picture taking. All very friendly and open again! Next is Arg-e Karim Khan Fortress. It was built in the early Zand period and formed part of the royal court of Karim Khan.During the Shah Reza Pahlavi time it was used as a prison and a lot of the details of the building got destroyed. Next is Rouhollah Bazaar where the local people shop. Very interesting for us to see the different products and shops. Now the crew is getting tired and after a tea in an old tea house back to the hotel where we have a short dinner. Catching up with webpage...
